今回は、ASDとADHDの合併、その治療、について解説します。

ASDとADHDの合併は頻度が高いですが、ADHDが見逃されていることが多いと思います。

ASDと診断されていると、症状がかぶっている部分も多いADHDは診断されていないことが多いです。

しかしADHDがもし合併しているのであれば、ADHDは治療薬が存在します。

そしてADHD治療薬はかなり効果的であり、精神科の薬の中では副作用も強くありません。

ASDのコミュニケーションの苦手さも、不注意が改善することで並行作業力が上がり、結果として改善することがあります。

また衝動性があると、対人関係でトラブルになりやすく、その原因がADHDにあれば、それも治療で改善する可能性あり、そうなるとかなりトラブルが減る可能性あります。

対人関係での失敗体験が続いていると、自己評価さがり、自我機能低下につながります。

うつっぽくなっていたとしても、抗うつ薬はおそらく効果はありません。

やはり根本の原因となっている部分を改善しないと意味がありません。

ADHD症状が改善することで、本人もきがついていなかった日常生活での困難さが改善する可能性があります。

Today, I’d like to explain the topic of comorbidity between Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and how it is treated.

■ High Frequency of Comorbidity, But Often Overlooked
It is common for individuals with ASD to also have ADHD, but ADHD is often overlooked in those already diagnosed with ASD.

Because many of the symptoms of ADHD overlap with ASD—such as inattention, impulsivity, or hyperactivity—ADHD may go undiagnosed if the focus remains solely on autism-related traits.

■ Why It Matters: ADHD Has Effective Treatments
If ADHD is present, it’s important to know that effective medications exist for ADHD, and these medications often provide significant improvement with relatively mild side effects, especially compared to other psychiatric medications.

■ How ADHD Treatment Can Improve ASD Symptoms
Improved attention can lead to better performance in parallel tasks and multi-step social interactions, which can indirectly enhance communication abilities often challenged in ASD.

If impulsivity is present and causes interpersonal conflicts, treating ADHD may reduce such incidents, resulting in fewer social misunderstandings.

Repeated negative social experiences can damage self-esteem and core identity, possibly leading to depressive symptoms. In such cases, antidepressants are often ineffective if the root cause is untreated ADHD.

Treating the underlying ADHD can result in significant improvements in daily functioning, even in areas the individual was not consciously aware of being affected.
